Planing Mast

Of course, I was eager to check on the mast this morning. I took off the clamps and had a look. I think it's going to be ok.

I pulled out my power planer and went to work shaping it. I shaved off 3 pounds of wood and have it about ready for sanding. It weighs about 23 pounds.

I'm going to hang it from my sun porch and invert a sanding belt and see if I can get it close to round. My first mast had a few flat spots in it, but it looked pretty good. I was very happy with it. Will have to wait and see on this one. I need to get a pack of 21" belts from the store.
