I'm writing this on January 21, 2021. We took did this overnight excursion in preparation for our big trip to Pensacola Bay which is described in this blog earlier.
I had owned Anago (yet unnamed at this point) for a year but had not sailed her due to my efforts to finish building Little Bit, but we needed to check her out before took her for an extended cruise. I can not recall many particulars so the pics will have to tell the story.
We chose to launch on Lake Nickajack because the Glen-L boat builders "Gathering" was being held at Hale's Bar Marina that weekend. I had been to several gatherings before and always enjoy seeing the beautiful boats. In fact, I've taken Little Bit there twice. Click here for the picture album of the "Gathering" of 2013.
There are only a few specifics that I remember about that shakedown cruise. First of all and most importantly, it satisfied us that we could take our Hunter 18.5 to Pensacola. I also remember stepping the mast and learning that the ramp there at Marion County Park has an electrical line that passed over the ramp which meant we had to unstep the mast, launch the boat the restep the mast. Ugggh! We anchored that night in the little cove on the western side of the "peninsula" and enjoyed the rising of a nearly full moon. the next day we motored or sailed (or both - don't remember) over to Hale's Bar Marina and looked at some of the boats. IIRC, it was Friday which is the day of the annual "river run" to Chattanooga so a lot of the homebuilt boats were away from the marina.
Here are a few shots. A happy "camper".
The full moon.
The Marion County Park from the water.
The old Rt 64 bridge with the new one under construction.
A couple shots of the boats.
A little swim time.
The cove where we anchored as seen from the road.
